The Yellows beat Real Betis away from home thanks to Tere Morató’s goal
It looked like it would be imposible to play the match at the Luis del Sol Training Ground at 4pm CET, when the match was set to kick-off. It was postponed for more than an hour and a half due to the heavy rain, and because of the state of the artificial pitch. However, Elena Casal decided that the match could take place. The Yellows beat Real Betis by the closest of margins (0-1), thanks to a great performance.
It was Villarreal Women who tried unsuccessfully to open the scoring early on, taking control of the game, but being unable to find the crucial pass, due to the ball rolling badly on the wet pitch. Belén Martínez was the most electric player in attack, but the best chance went to Pancha Lara with an effort from a direct free-kick.
The Submarine started the second half strongly. Belén had the first real chance after the break, but her effort went over the bar. Just a minute later, Tere Morató sent the ball against the post from the edge of the box. The Andorran striker had a great chance again, going one-on-one with the opposition goalkeeper after a great Sheila Guijarró pass, the the woodwork once more denied her, and Sheila was unable to capitalise on the rebound.
However, Morató got a third chance, and this time she made the most of it. Belén’s effort hit the bar, and the forward pushed the rebound over the line. The match ended with an important win for the Yellows, who are fighting to stay in the top flight.
After this win, Sara Monforte’s side have a break for Christmas to return after the holidays. Merry Christmas, Yellows!
