Pere Martí’s side score four goals past Manchester United, in what was a perfect performance by the Yellows
Villarreal CF comfortably beat Manchester United (1-4) on Matchday 2 of the UEFA Youth League. The Yellows were much better than the English team, and came away from their visit to Leigh Sports Village with a convincing win. With the victory in England, the Submarine are top of their group in the continental youth competition. The Mini Submarine’s goals came from Joan Torrents, Jorge Pascual, Marlone Foubert and Rodri Alonso.
The Submarine quickly showed their superiority over the Red Devils. Pere Martí’s side went ahead with less than five minutes on the clock. Torrents put the Yellows ahead getting on the end of a rebound from a Pascual effort, which hit the post.
The party had only just started at Leigh Sports Village. In the 23rd minute, Villarreal found the back of the net once more. This time it was Pascual, who after a cross that hit the woodwork, showed his goalscoring instinct to react first and extend the lead.
United had no answers to the Yellows’ dominance. Before the half-hour mar, the Yellows were already three up. Marlone scored after an excellent free-kick from Antonio Pacheco. When it seemed that would be the score going into half-time, Alonso received a fantastic Aitor Gelardo ball over the top, twisted and fired past the Red Devils goalkeeper. It was 0-4 at the end of the first half.
In the second half, Villarreal did not force things. The English side got one back through Fernández, whose header from a set piece beat Filip Jorgensen. In the closing stages, with a three-goal lead, Martí looked to the bench, bringing on players such as Emiliano García, Jon García, Hinojosa, Álex Jiménez and Joan Ruiz.
