Santi Cazorla once more will wear a historic number in the club’s history
Santi Cazorla will once more wear the No.8 on his shirt. A number that he’s already worn for the Yellow Submarine, at the end of his previous spell with the club, and a number that he takes over from Pablo Fornals, after his transfer to West Ham United.
The No.8 is a special number for Villarreal, full of memories and emotions for Yellows fans. Gica Craioveanu (the goalscorer of Villarreal’s first top-flight goal) and Juan Román Riquelme, among others, wore it on the back of their shirts. Pure magic. Last season, Cazorla wore the No.19, another number also worn by another club legend, Marcos Senna.
It’s common for certain numbers to be special for a certain club. There are a number of examples. At Barcelona, the No.10 which is worn by Leo Messi at the moment was previously worn by stars like Diego Maradona, Romario, Rivaldo and Ronaldinho. While at Real Madrid, it would be the No.7, previously worn by Juanito, Emilio Butragueño, Raúl and Cristiano Ronaldo.
For Villarreal, the No.8 is now Cazorla’s again. There is no-one better for the shirt.
