Unai Emery’s side brought the flair in a stalemate encounter with no big chances (0-0)

Villarreal pick up a point at the Estadio Ramón de Carranza (0-0). Unai Emery’s side drew on their visit to Cádiz, where they came up against a tough home side who were solid in defence. Villarreal wore their third turquoise and maroon kit for the game and were the better team who added colour to a grey game with few chances.

After the European clash last Thursday, Unai Emery spread the load by making more changes to the starting eleven that walked out at the Estadio Ramón de Carranza. Only Raúl Albiol, Trigueros, Coquelin and Take were starters again with respect to the UEFA Europa League victory against Sivasspor (5-3).

Just after the first whistle, Cádiz took the lead with a goal by Negredo but after consulting VAR it was ruled offside. A wake-up call for Unai Emery’s men.

Despite dominating possession, Villarreal found it difficult to convert their dominance into dangerous goalscoring opportunities. Cádiz sat back and did not give Villarreal any space to work with.

The chances were few and far between in the first half, but the second half kicked off with a clear opportunity for Villarreal. Paco Alcácer could not connect with a great assist from out on the left by Pedraza, which was preceded by a fabulous through ball by Moi Gómez.

Villarreal did not settle for the draw at the Carranza at any moment, pushing for the win as Emery brought on Chukwueze and Bacca to break the deadlock. In the final minutes of the match, Paco Alcácer and Raúl Albiol came close to scoring, but in the end it was a goalless draw. Villarreal took away a point on their visit to Cádiz which allows the Yellows to keep fighting at the top of the table.
