Mario Gaspar and Manu Trigueros, on the verge of overtaking Bruno Soriano, the current player with most games for the Submarine

Villarreal’s centenarians have been recognised at the Estadio de la Cerámica. Yellows’ president Fernando Roig has given eight current first-team players a commemorative shirt with the number of matches they’ve played for the Submarine.

The players who received their gifts were Mario Gaspar and Manu Trigueros, for their 400 matches with the Submarine, Gerard Moreno and Moi Gómez for their 200 matches with the Yellows and Pau Torres, Samu Chukwueze, Alfonso Pedraza and Raúl Albiol for their 100 official matches as a Yellow.

The select club of Yellows centenarians

After the last league match against Osasuna, these are how many games the select club of players have played. From the current squad, Mario Gaspar (419), Manu Trigueros (412), Sergio Asenjo (255), Moi Gómez (215), Gerard Moreno (204), Samu Chukwueze (142), Alfonso Pedraza (120), Pau Torres (120) and Raúl Albiol (116) are the players to have broken the 100-game mark for Villarreal CF.

Mario and Trigueros, a punto de superar a Bruno

Mario Gaspar and Manu Trigueros could break Bruno Soriano’s record of being the player with the most matches for Villarreal (425). These three footballers are in the top three, with the fourth-placed player Marcos Senna (363) now retired and currently working as the club’s ambassador.

Asenjo, aiming for the top 10

Sergio Asenjo (who previously received his commemorative 200-match shirt) is just five matches away from becoming one of the top 10 players with most games for the Yellows. The goalkeeper could overtake Javi Venta (260) and become the third player of the current squad in the top10 Villarreal footballers to have played the most games for the club.
