The Submarine has 54 points from 30 matches, the same as in 2010/11 when they finished fourth
Last Sunday Villarreal played their 600th match in the First Division as they drew 2-2 with FC Barcelona in El Madrigal. An absolutely brilliant game for the rounded figure for the Yellows in the top flight.
After having played 30 league matches the Submarine has racked up 54 points, matching their second best record from the 16 seasons they have served in the First Division. In the 2010/11 season, the Yellows finished the league in fourth place with 62 points and consequently in a UEFA Champions league spot.
To date, the Submarine’s best record for the first 30 league matches was in the 2007/08 campaign, when Manuel Pellegrini’s side had accumulated 59 points and sat in second place in the league table. That was the historic runner-up season.
The 2004/05 season also catches the eye as Villarreal had less points than they do currently (50), but were in third place nevertheless.
