The B team have confirmed their place in the newly-formed Primera RFEF division, and will fight for promotion to Segunda División after beating Orihuela at Los Arcos
Villarreal B will be in a new league next season. The Mini Submarine confirmed their promotion to the new Primera RFEF league, and will try and get the big prize of promotion to Segunda División. The B team beat Orihuela 2-4 thanks to goals from Juan Carlos Arana, Álex Millán, Diego Collado and Jack Harper, and will end the first stage of the season in the top three of the league after Hércules lost to Atlético Levante (0-1).
The first half was anything but quiet, with a lot happening. The opener came after just a few seconds. It went to Orihuela. Solano went one-on-one against Filip Jorgensen, and finished well with a shot just inside the post (1-0, m.1).
In the sixth minute, Jorgensen had to go off as he was injured. The Swedish goalkeeper was replaced by Marc Vidal. It looked like everything was going wrong for the B team, but they turned things around.
The equaliser came in the 20th minute. Haissem Hassan made a great run down the left, crossed into the heart of the box, and Arana headed spectacularly into the back of the net. A real ‘golazo’ (1-1).
With half an hour gone, there was another key moment in the match. Miguel Marí was sent off for the home side after two yellow cards, leaving Orihuela with ten men. The midfielder fouled Sergio Lozano twice in just two minutes. Both were yellows.
Villarreal B made the most of the extra man to make it 1-2. This time it was Juan Agüero with the assist, setting up Millán to score with a powerful shot before Leandro could react (m.30).
At half-time, Villarreal B made their second change, with Collado replacing Agüero. The B team’s No.16 scored with his first touch. He got on the end of the box, shooting powerfully into the back of the next. The ball flew in like a rocket (1-3).
Orihuela made it tense for the Yellows late on, scoring from the penalty spot. Chechu went down in the box after a tangle with Dani Tasende, and the referee pointed to the spot. Chechu himself stepped up to score (2-3, m.78).
In added time, Villarreal B sealed their win. Collado sent a long ball over the top to Hassan, who laid it off for Harper, who made it 2-4 with a placed effort.
Next up for Villarreal B will be a home game against UD Ibiza at the Mini Estadi in the last game of the first stage of the season (time and date TBC).
Great job, boys!
