The B team beat UCAM Murcia with goals from Lozano and Collado
Villarreal B ended 2021 in the best way possible. The Mini Submarine beat UCAM Murcia (2-1) thanks to goals from Sergio Lozano, from the penalty spot, and Diego Collado. The away team’s goal came from Charlie Dean. Miguel Álvarez’s side were the better team, enjoying a number of goalscoring opportunities.
Both teams could have scored early on. Nikita Iosifov, for the Yellows, went close with a potent right-footed effort. Liberto Beltrán had the best effort for UCAM, with his shot hitting the woodwork.
The opener came in the 22nd minute. Lozano was brought down in the box, before stepping up himself to make it 1-0. There was no doubt.
Antonio Pacheco could have made it two with half an hour gone. Iosifov shot, it was pushed out by Biel Rivas, and Pacheco was unable to score from the rebound, despite having an open goal in front of him.
In the second half, the B team had the ball in the back of the net through Pablo Íñiguez, but the referee ruled the goal out because of a foul in the build-up.
UCAM Murcia drew level from a corner. Dean headed it into the back of the net to equalise (1-1).
The Mini Submarine continued pushing forward, with good chances for Pacheco, Migue Leal, Collado and Juan Carlos Arana.
Their persistence paid off in the 82nd minute. Lozano nutmegged a UCAM player, played it through to Forés, who dummied the keeper before sending it low across the goal for Collado to score (2-1).
Next up for Villarreal B will be a match on Sunday 9th January away to Algeciras (12pm CET).
