The B team overcome the Andalusian side with an impressive performance and stay top of their league

Continuing to grow. After beating CD Castellón midweek, Villarreal B got another three points at the Mini Estadi against Atlético Sanluqueño (4-1), a side who also faced the first team this season in the second round of the Copa del Rey. Miguel Álvarez’s team, thanks to two Juan Carlos Arana goals, and strikers from Sergio Lozano and Ahn June-Hyuk, stay at the top of Primera RFEF Group 2.

The match started without much between the two sides. Both teams fought for every ball as they tried to take control of possession and land the first blow. After only three minutes, Nicolas Jackson, who came off the bench for the first team against RCD Mallorca on Saturday, had the first chance of the match, but his effort hit the post.

It wasn’t the Senegalese striker’s day in front of goal. With around a quarter of an hour on the clock, he once more hit the woodwork of Isma Falcón’s goal. The Mini Submarine were putting a lot of pressure on the side from Sanlúcar de Barrameda as they looked for the opener. And that goal came soon. In a corner taken by the Yellows, a defender from the Andalusian handled the ball in the box. Lozano stepped up from the spot to score in the 27th minute of the game.

The Mini Submarine were not taking any chances and continued to push forward in attack, looking for a second goal before half-time. In the 37th minute, Jackson capitalized on a mistake by the Atlético Sanluqueño striker in the box before laying it off to Villarreal B’s top scorer Arana, who made no mistake in front of an open goal to make it 2-0 on the scoreboard.

At half-time, the Yellows were in the lead and looking good, impressing their fans with their performance during the opening 45 minutes.

The second half started in style. After a great piece of individual play by Jackson, the ball fell to the feet of Arana to score. The striker got a brace, just did in the previous match against CD Castellón. He now has 11 goals this season.

Even with the advantage on the scoreboard, the Mini Submarine continued to compete well and dominated the second half. Arana had to be taken off in the 70th minute after a heavy challenge from a defencer. Ahn, who came off the bench in the second half put the icing on the cake by scoring a penalty that he had won. Atlético Sanluqueño did manage to pull back in the 84th minute when Armental fired past Filip Jorgensen.

The game ended 4-1. Villarreal B continue to make the Mini Estadi into a fortress, and get three more important points which keep them top of Primera RFEF Group 2. Next up for the Mini Submarine is an away trip to Sevilla Atlético (Wednesday, 9pm CET) at the Jesús Navas Stadium.
