Villarreal B lose to Antequera (2-0)

The B team lose for the first time this season in the match against the joint leaders of the league

Villarreal B were defeated on their visit to El Maulí. The Mini Submarine were unable to overcome the current joint leaders of the division, Antequera, who, with goals from Saddiki and Marcelo, took the win in the match played on Saturday evening.

The home side were the better side in the early stages of the game. Spurred on by their home crowd and with the motivation of beating the so far unbeaten Villarreal B, the home side constantly looked to trouble the Yellows’ goal, today defended by Rubén Gómez, who had to do his very best in the first half.

Antequera’s first serious chance came in the 25th minute when a free-kick ended up in the back of the net, but the referee, Rubén Ruipérez, disallowed it for offside.

Only two minutes had gone by when again the home side, this time through Siddiki with a shot from the edge of the area, put Rubén Gómez to the test.

After the half hour mark at El Maulí, Miguel Álvarez’s men began to show more of what they were capable of and the first dangerous chances for the Mini Submarine began to arrive.

First, Víctor Moreno broke free from up three home defenders to find space to take a shot and try his luck, but his angled position prevented goalkeeper Iván Moreno from having serious problems to stop the shot. Shortly afterwards, in the 33rd minute, Pau Cabanes had Villarreal B’s best and clearest chance of the game with a shot with his weaker foot inside the box that was denied by the post.

With the score level at 0-0, Antequera and Villarreal B went into the break.

At the start of the second half Antequera took the lead. Siddiki, near the halfway line of the area, hit a right-footed shot that hit Valou’s back and deflected the ball into the back of the net.

Miguel Álvarez looked for a reaction from the bench. Diatta, Facundo Viveros and Fabio Blanco came on to help the team in their search for an equaliser.

However, Antequera widened the gap on the scoreboard through Marcelo, who, after a long ball, was one-on-one with Rubén Gómez and, with some good fortune, made it 2-0 in the 75th minute.

In the end, Villarreal B lost at El Maulí against Antequera. The Yellows’ next game will take place on Sunday 22nd September, when they host Recreativo de Huelva at the Mini Estadi at 12pm CEST.
