The Mini Submarine deserved more against Conquense in a match affected by the uneven pitch
Villarreal B came away from their match against Conquense with a point, in a match that was affected, inevitable, by the state of the pitch. The Yellows Reserves dominated the first half, but the home side were able to get ahead on the scoreboard in the second half. In added time, Rubén Mesa rescued a point with a lovely overhead kick after a ball played to the back post.
Villarreal B had a number of goalscoring chances, especially in the first half, although none of them found their way to the back of the net until the very end of the match.
The opening goal came in the 63rd minute. A nice piece of attacking play by Conquense after winning the ball allowed Cristian to beat Joan Femenías with a right-footed effort.
The Mini Submarine continued pushing until the full-time whistle and they got their reward in the 91st minute. Iván Martín played a ball into the area, it was deflected and fell to Mesa, who scored with an acrobatic overhead kick.
Next up for Villarreal B is a game in England against Southampton in the Premier League International Cup quarter-finals (Wednesday, 8pm CET). Their next league tie will be against Barcelona B (Sunday, 12pm CET). That match will be streamed on Villarreal CF Live.
