The Yellows’ B team get an impresive result against Budapest Honvéd at the inauguration of the Bozsik Arena
Villarreal B drew their game in Hungary today (0-0). The match should have been played by the Villarreal men’s first team, but after two positive COVID-19 cases were detected, it was the B team who faced Budapest Honvéd.
The game was also the inauguration of the spectacular Bozsik Arena in Budapest. In the build-up, there was a lot of excitement, with musical performances, a great atmosphere, and even a parachutist landing in the middle of the pitch. It was a complete party.
Villarreal CF wants to thank Dr. Daniel Mendelenyi, owner of Budapest Honvéd and the club’s CEO Mr. Gàbor Kun for their extraordinary hospitality during the official meeting prior to the match.
“I can relate with Budapest Honvéd’s project very well. For Villarreal, our recent success is the fulfillment of a 25 year old idea. Dr. Mendelenyi has a very strong project and the same passion for football we have. Our club will be open to collaborate with them in many areas. We share the same values and I wish him and his great staff all the best.” said Villarreal Vice President Mr. José Manuel Llaneza.
Villarreal B went head-to-head with their opponents from the start, looking impressive in the opening 45 mintues. Budapest Honvéd were unable to find the best way of dominating the Mini Submarine, and both teams had chances. The best for the Yellows came to Carlo Adriano, whose header from a cross from the left was off target.
At half-time, Miguel Álvarez made eight changes to refresh the team. However, just after the break, the home side could have gone ahead. Nono went one-on-one with half-time substitute Rubén Gómez, but he sent the ball over the bar.
The best news from the second half was the return of Ramón Bueno. The midfielder returned to action after more than a year and a half injured. Sergio Lozano had the Yellows’ best chance after half-time, whose powerful left-footed shot from the edge of the box was saved spectacularly by Szappanos.
The game ended goalless, with neither Villarreal B nor Budapest Honvéd unable to break the deadlock.
