The official gave two penalties against the Yellows and sent off Ayouba in the 74th minute
Villarreal B got a decent point against Betis Deportivo (2-2) in a match that was affected, inevitably, by controversy regarding the referee. The match official, Alejandro Clemente Ortuño, gave two penalties to Betis Deportivo in the first half and sent off Ayouba in the 74th minute.
The Yellows’ goals came from Pau Cabanes and Etta Eyong, who marked his debut by scoring. For Betis Deportivo, Marcos (from the penalty spot) and Souleymane found the back of the net.
The first of the penalties was given in the eighth minute. Ayouba brought down Souleymane in the box, but the effort from Marcos was off target.
The Mini Submarine fought back and looked to take control of the game. Joseda found some space down the right flank and placed a precise cross into the box for Pau Cabanes to spectacularly make contact and the ball to fly into the top corner (1-0, m.15).
Not long later, in the 24th minute, Betis Deportivo were able to draw level. It was thanks to another penalty given by the referee, which Marcos did not miss, to make it 1-1 on the scoreboard.
In the second half, Villarreal B missed a lot of chances. Tiago Geralnik’s headed effort from inside the box didn’t go in, while Fabio Blanco went one-on-one with the goalkeeper but he was unable to beat him…
The sending off of Ayouba
In the 74th minute there was another controversial moment. Ayouba was sent off after a coming together with a Betis Deportivo player and Villarreal B had to play 20 minutes with a player less.
A goalscoring debut for Etta Eyoung
Despite being a man down, the B team were able to go ahead on the scoreboard. Fabio Blanco’s powerful low cross was sent into the back of the net by Etta Eyong from point-blank range. A debut and a goal for the Cameroonian striker (m.86).
Only two minutes later, there was a wake-up call for the Yellows: Souleymane got on the end of a ball in the area to make it 2-2, which was how the game ended.
It was a hard-fought draw for Villarreal B against Betis Deportivo in a match where the refereeing decisions were questionable.
Next up for the Mini Submarine is a match against Real Madrid Castilla on Saturday 7th September at the Mini Estadi at the José Manuel Llaneza Training Ground (7:30pm CEST).
