The Yellows B team went head-to-head with Ibiza, but were out of luck against the league leaders
Villarreal B went head-to-head with the leader, but came back from Can Misses empty handed, despite deserving a lot more. Miguel Álvarez’s side ended up losing their first match of 2021, thanks to goals from Sergio Castel and Ángel Rodado. Villarreal B goalkeeper Filip Jorgensen also saved a penalti.
Sergio Lozano returned to the Villarreal B starting line-up, after returning from his loan in the second tier with Cartagena.
It was an even match, with the opener coming in the eighth minute. Davo escaped down the right flank, and put in a low cross for Castel to score at the far post (1-0).
Villarreal B grew into the match, dominating the second half. The Mini Submarine had chances to equalise through Álex Millán, Sergio Lozano twice and Diego Collado. They failed to take their opportunites and paid for that with a loss.
In the 84th minute, Jorgensen saved a penalty from Rodado, but the goal to make it 2-0 came just three minutes later, when Rodado went round the Swedish goalkeeper to score into an empty next.
Next up for Villarreal B is Peña Deportiva, who they host this Sunday at the Mini Estadi at 12pm CET. The match will be shown on Villarreal CF Live.
