The centre back praised the Submarine squad, the side to have conceded the fewest goals in LaLiga so far
Villarreal’s left footed Catalonian centre back, Víctor Ruiz, took advantage of the second international break to review how the season has gone so far for the Yellows. The Catalonian touched on the team’s two consecutive losses before beating Betis. “The two losses cause quite a stir, but in the changing room it was relaxed because we knew the mistakes we’d made. We put those things right and hope they don’t happen again”, he explained. Víctor Ruiz also mentioned the next LaLiga Santander clash in San Mamés: “Athletic are on our level. They’re very strong at home. We will try to pick up a good result there”.
Defensively, the Submarine seem to be armour-plated, as currently they are the team to have conceded the least goals in the LaLiga Santander with just 7 in 11 games. And Víctor Ruiz has played a huge part in that, becoming one of the best centre backs in the league. The number 6 analyzed the season so far on an individual and collective level. “It shows that we’ve been playing together for a long time. We understand each other very well and this helps us to conceded less goals. We’re solid at the back. We get back in good numbers”, he commented.
Víctor Ruiz was the footballer to play the most minutes last season and is on the right track to do the same this season. “Everyone always wants to play. I feel very good. The fact that I play a lot of consecutive matches benefits me physically. I’m delighted and want to keep going like this”.
With regard to Villarreal’s objectives in LaLiga Santander, the Yellows player was cautious and realistic, saying “there are three teams that are above the rest and then there are another three or four that will fight for that fourth place”. “We don’t have to give anything up, but it will surely be similar to last year. Our aim is to stay high up in table until the end. We want to repeat our fourth place finish, although we know it’s not going to be easy. It’s too early to draw conclusions yet”, he concluded.
