The Villarreal Assistant Manager highlights the great game by the whole team, who knew how to keep their heads
The Villarreal Assistant Manager, Rubén Uría, who took the place of Marcelino on the bench, emphasized that the team knew how to finish the job at a very difficult place to play at in the Ipurua stadium. “We know it was going to be important to go into this game with intensity, enthusiasm and desire to maintain the gap from fifth place. We’re really happy because the game was intense and tough but we came out on top. I think they had 30-35 minutes where they played well and had some chances, but after that in the last 10 minutes of the first half and first 15 minutes of the second we were able to sentence the match. After that we suffered a bit because it’s a difficult pitch to play on, against a team that goes for it and plays very direct football, but we’re happy because we had a good game all-round at a very difficult place to play”.
For the Assistant Manager, the key was that the team didn’t lose faith at any moment: “It was essential the way we went into the game. We had composure and confidence in ourselves and we got two goals which I think could have been more”.
Uría also wanted to thank the team and said all the merit goes to them as they settled the score in a big match. “We’re satisfied and we have to congratulate the players on their fine display. Bruno had a great game, he controlled the ship, but we defended well too, we created chances and they caused us few problems in the second half. It was tense because it was a difficult encounter, but we’re happy. The merit goes to the players who came to a difficult pitch and got a very important victory”.
