The Basque manager praised the opposition, who have had an impressive start to the season: “They’re a team who are going into the match in great form. They’re a newly-promoted team this year and they’ve kept the positive points from last season, and that’s paying off. They’re in the European spots and they’re above us in the table.”

Regarding the opposition’s playing style, Emery emphasized that Rayo Vallecano are a brave side who have a very defined playing style: “They’re a daring side, who want to be near the opposition goal. They always play the same way, with the same idea, from the first to the last minute and regardless of the score.”

Finally, regarding returning to LaLiga action for Emery is a new opportunity to move up the table: “Our aim is to cut the distance between us and Rayo Vallecano. To do that, we need to dig in. We want the fans to be behind us and help us to get the three points.”
