Emery underlines the demands and the stimulation that come with a match like the one against Real Madrid (Saturday, 4:15pm CET)
Villarreal CF head coach Unai Emery appeared in front of the media this Friday to analyse the upcoming match against Real Madrid at the Estadio de la Cerámica (Saturday, 4:15pm CET).
The Basque head coach underlined that facing Los Blancos is a stimulating challenge: “We’re ambitious with our European objectives and when we play big matches against sides like Real Madrid. They’re the best team in LaLiga. There are three points up for grabs, but we also want to see where we are in terms of competing against them. We’re facing the leaders, who are in good form.”
Despite the impressive level of the opposition, Emery underlines that the objective against Real Madrid is to get the three points: “They’re Real Madrid and we respect them because of their name, what they represent and the footballers they have. We want to compete against them and beat them. In the first match between the two sides this season, we performed well and we got a draw at the Bernabéu. This time, we want to take one more step and find what we couldn’t find to be able to beat them.”
The Yellows head coach underlined that the match against the side from the Spanish capital will demand Villarreal to be at their very best: “We need to be very intelligent with how we play and now when to go for them. We need to read each stage of the match and try and be ourselves, perform well, be intense and strong in the duels.”
Finally, the Basque manager underlined that it also won’t be an easy match for Carlo Ancelotti’s side: “Real Madrid know that the match against us is going to be difficult. They know that they have to put in a good performance, that we like to have the ball and they need to get it from us. The know they need to put in a complete performance to win here, and that we can compete against them.”
