The Yellows were unable to keep up with the Catalan side, who did not let off for 90 minutes
Villarreal Women were unable to stop the FC Barcelona train at the Mini Estadi. The current UEFA Champions League champions, who won their last league game 8-0, were much better than Sara Monforte’s side.
The Yellows took to the pitch full of concentration and tried to impose intensity without the ball, while looking for counter attacks. Despite Monforte’s side’s effort, Barça managed to impose the tempo they wanted, scoring three goals before half-time, through Martens, Alexia Putellas and Marta Torrejón. In the second half, the Yellows were unable to stop the endless attack, and the away side continued to score. with Putellas and Oshoala both scoring twice, and Martens getting another goal.
Next up for Villarreal Women is an away game to Real Sociedad on Sunday 3rd October at 12pm CEST, where they will try and get back on track after this defeat.
