Villarreal B kick off league play with a win against Atlético Levante thanks to goals from Villa and Edu Espiau, the second a spectacular bicycle kick

A dream start. Villarreal B beat Atlético Levante (2-1) in their first league game of the season at the Mini Estadi thanks to an early goal by Villa and a beauty of a finish by Edu Espiau, who scored the game winner with a bicycle kick.

The match started in the best way possible with Villa opening the scoring in the 3rd minute (1-0, m. 3). After great attacking play by the Yellows, Iván Martín played a deadly through ball to Villa who just had to slot the ball into an open net. The Yellows No.7 was completely selfless and would also go on to assist Edu Espiauis’ winning goal for the Mini Submarine later on in the match.

The equaliser came as a result of an own goal. Sofian Chakla played the ball back to keeper Diego Fuoli, but the pass went past the Villarreal B goalie and into the back of the net (1-1, m. 15).

Despite the blow, the Yellows Reserves knew how to pick themselves up and dust themselves off. The decisive goal to make it 2-1 was a true work of art. Andrei played the ball out wide to Iván Martín who sat it up perfectly with his cross, inviting Edu Espiau to go for the bicycle kick and he pulled it off in style. Sublime. (2-1, m. 50).

Villarreal B held on until the end and took all three points from their first game of the season. The Mini Submarine’s next opponent is Hércules de Alicante at the José Rico Pérez stadium.
