Víctor Ruiz has played the most minutes for the Submarine this season (3,475)
Villarreal CF defender, Víctor Ruiz, has become a key figure in Marcelino’s back line. In fact, the Yellow number 6 is the player with the most minutes in the squad with 3,475 between LaLiga (2,474), Copa del Rey (101) and UEFA Europa League (900) matches.
Víctor Ruiz hopes to keep going until the end: “I feel good. I want to keep going like this, helping the team. I’ve accumulated a lot of fatigue from all the minutes I’ve played, but I have to keep going and even try to be better in the next month and a half. Any player would like to have played the amount of minutes I have. We all want to play, always, but we are tiring. I feel good and I haven’t had any injuries. We’ve got to keep going as we are”.
For the Yellows defender, the final stretch of the season will be exciting: “There’s an exciting month and a half left. We’re going to try to qualify for the Champions League and go as far as we can in the UEFA Europa League. We’re the favourites against Sparta Prague, but they’re there for a reason. It is a key moment in the season and we’ll try to get the best we can out of both games”.
According to Víctor Ruiz, to finish in a Champions League spot will be difficult, but they’ll keep going for it to the end: “Any of the three teams chasing us would happily change places with us. We have the advantage and we have to defend it in every way we can. We’ve been towards the top of LaLiga all season and we want to defend that position”.
The defender also talked about the Yellows’ performance against leaders FC Barcelona in El Madrigal: “We picked up a well deserved point against the best team in LaLiga. We were close to getting something more out of the game, but we’re really proud of our performance”.
To finish, Víctor Ruiz sent a message to the fans: “It would be amazing to experience that atmosphere in El Madrigal every fortnight. After giving our best the fans gave us that extra push against Barça. From here on out I’d like the fans to create that atmosphere every game”.
