The young players are growing massively without taking results into account
When the results are not the most important thing and each match is a unique opportunity. Villarreal’s U8s F (Pre Benjamín F) are in the middle of a season filled with learning where their young players are learning something basic about competing: knowing you cannot always win. In youth football for Villarreal, it is hugely important to form people and in the U8s F, there is a great standing of human beings.
“The boys are learning a lot because in this club, process and individual growth is really valued. Without taking the result into account, this year, all our attention is focused on our players growing in a sporting sense, and gaining individual values,” comments Manolo Sales, one of the coaches.
“This acceptance of frustration makes these boys great, it means that they fight every match alongside each other on the pitch. Only a few days ago, they were about to beat their rival in a great match against Roda C (6-5). On this occasion, they fell just short, despite the goals from Jaume Espel, Izan Giménez (3) and captain Leo Enguídanos.
“The match against Roda was a real morale boost for us. We had the feeling that we deserved a better result. In the upcoming match, we hope to follow that path and carry on progressing,” underlines Sales.
This week, there was no matches, which means the boys are desperate for the upcoming match. It will be against the league leaders: Orpesa B.
“We’ve learned to value small details and that when we lose we focus on different things. For example, when the boys complain that their opponents are better and taller… As the coaching team, we tell them that they have other things that they do very well. We’ve all learned to keep our head up after a goal,” he comments.
The young players stay positive and go into each game with a lot of excitement. The team is the most important thing and they all have sporting values: “We insist in each training session that we have a reason to smile. We win in each training session, each time we learn, for example, when a boy does a nice piece of control, when we stay in a position… This is important,” concludes Sales.
Without doubt, they are a team that is an example for many other sides.
