The Yellows are a united team, with a good atmosphere and hopeful young players
Villarreal’s Benjamín D, an under-9 side, are now going into the 2021/22 season. After their first two league games, where they’ve beaten UD Vall de Uxó (1-4) and Andiamo Vila-real C (13-0), the Yellows, coached by Vicent Tarancón and Jorge Usó, are not putting a ceiling on what they can do.
The aims of the coaching staff for the players, as well as learning and having fun, is, according to Trancón, ‘qualify for the final stage and try and stay towards the top of the league, as well as conceding as few goals as possible in the league to be ready for the second stage of the season.” All of the 8-a-side leagues start with qualifying stages which then lead to the team qualifying for one league or another, depending on their place in the table after the initial stage.
Regarding methodology, like all other Villarreal youth teams, their coach underlines that they are focused on “the players improving through the individual aims, which translates into collective growth.” He added: “We also want them to always be motivated and form them with regards to their values.”
The adaptation to the ‘Benjamín’ level has been relatively easy for these youngsters, as a lot of them played together last year, and the new players have adapted quickly: “I would say we’re a good group because there’s a great atmosphere and a real sense of camaraderie and care for each other than everyone shows each other. This means they are confident to be creative and not scared of making errors. We’re lucky enough to look after a united team that does not need any conflict mediation,” underlined the coach.
Albiol Jr, in the Yellows Academy
One of the players in the team is Romeo Albiol, son of the experienced first-team defender, who plays as a goalkeeper. His dad is one of the regular attendees, watching the training sessions with the boys, led by Tarancón and Usó at Miralcamp.
Just like some other Villarreal players who trusted, and some who still do, Albiol trusts the Yellows Academy coaches for his son’s formation on and off the pitch: “It’s the first time that he’s played in a team, but he’s started full of excitement and has adapted perfectly. He has a lot to improve, but has good reflexes,” says Tarancón.
