The former Yellows Academy player has made 29 appearances for the First Team this season

Rodrigo Hernández keeps climbing the ladder, with giant steps. The centre midfielder has really established himself in the Villarreal First Team this season, having already played 29 matches in the LaLiga (21), UEFA Europa League (4) and Copa del Rey (4) competitions. In total, he has played 1,384 minutes at a great level. The Yellows number 16 prefers to take his training step by step. In fact, Rodrigo wanted to thank the club for the confidence it has shown in him since he arrived at the Yellows Academy: “Villarreal has always showed me a lot of affection and I try to respond on the pitch. This is my home and my objective is to become one of the key players in this team”.

In terms of the Yellows’ current situation, Rodrigo Hernández highlighted the “difficulty” of Sunday’s league clash against RC Deportivo de La Coruña (Estadio de la Cerámica, 8pm CET): “It is going to be a really difficult match because both teams are playing for a lot. They’re playing to stay up and we’re playing for European football. We mustn’t give them any chance to pick up points. We’re at home, with our fans behind us and we have to get the three points”.

On the other hand, the Yellows number 16 said qualifying for Europe will not be confirmed until the last league match: “It would be great to confirm our place in Europe this week, but it doesn’t look like that will be possible. Our opponents and ourselves are playing to a very high level”.
