Alfonso Pedraza showed great excitement at the prospect of silverware this season

Villarreal’s left-sided player, Alfonso Pedraza, has showed his pride at the season that the Yellow Submarine are putting together, particularly with the fact that nine of the first team squad are made up of academy graduates. To these nine, you would also need to add the players who have broken through to the first team from Villarreal B this season, including Yeremy Pino, Álex Baena, Fer Niño, Álex Millán…

“It’s very important, and we have to be proud of the fact that we have so many academy graduates in this team. It’s fantastic that we have so many home-grown players. To win silverware with homegrown players would be something incredible” said Pedraza.

According to the Yellows No.24,  the team have confidence after four consecutive wins: “We are doing well, the dynamic has changed and we are winning in the league once more, while making progress in the Europa League. We’re very excited for these games and will approach them with confidence. It’s clear that now the things become more difficult as the final stretch of the season approaches, where everybody is playing constantly. We’re in the place that we wanted to be in and we’re going to give 100% to make sure that we’re there come the end of the season.”

Pedraza also spoke about his comfort playing as a left-back, as well as his versatility: “I try to give 100% wherever the manager wants me to play. It’s true that the return of Alberto Moreno means there is more competition for this spot. I will play wherever I’m needed and I will try to do so at the best of my ability; if it’s at full-back or on the wing, that’s the manager’s decision. Arriving from deep is something that I feel very comfortable doing, I think that I have found the position where I can perform best and where I can give most. It is tough to be at your best all season, but I try and be as good as I can be in each match.”

To conclude, he analysed the Yellows next opponent, Granada CF (Saturday, 2pm CEST): “Granada are a tough opponent, an intense, direct side. We know that we will face a tough side that will make us uncomfortable. Granada are having a good season, they’re one of the teams fighting to be in Europe.”
