Villarreal B aim to make amends at Butarque against an excellent Leganés side
Villarreal B visit LALIGA Hypermotion leaders CD Leganés this Sunday at 6:30pm CET at Butarque, and Mini Submarine head coach Miguel Álvarez appeared at the press conference ahead of the game.
Here is what he had to say ahead of the match:
A big challenge
“It is an important challenge. If they are leading the table, it’s for a reason. The numbers they have at home are like an unbeatable team. This division is what it is. We’re capable of beating Espanyol 3-1, but if you let your guard down, Mirandés come and beat you 3-0. We know that it won’t be easy in Leganes, but it’s true that in Burgos we lost 3-2 and they hadn’t conceded any goals in dynamic play and we scored two against them. We’ll see if we can give a better performance than in previous games”.
Facing a young head coach
“We head coaches are always the same. If you don’t win games you are really bad and if you win them you are really good. We can see that they are a team with their own stamp and very well structured, but they are also chameleon-like because they adapt to their opponents and have used all the systems. They are capable of adapting to their opponents and minimising them. They are a very powerful team without the ball, but they are also the second highest scorer with 19 goals, although there are four teams there. He’s a very young kid, with a lot of projection and he’s working very well.”
Minimise their strengths
“Their strengths are many. We know they have many strengths, we have to weaken them and stop them from coming to the fore. The absence of Dani Raba benefits us because he is fundamental in individual actions, counter-attacks and set pieces. Offensively, we have to be hopeful because they have only conceded five goals, but let’s see if we can score a goal and control all the good things they have on the ball.”
Some old friends
“Apart from Raba, Franquesa and Darío Poveda are also there. We have dedicated a lot of hours to them and we are very happy that they are there. In the second division, the number of players who have passed through here is amazing. In my first year, we had Dani and Darío and it was a pity they didn’t go up. Talented people keep coming through and that’s lucky for us.”
