Miguel Álvarez’s men dominated the game at El Alcoraz, but were unable to find the net
Villarreal B were narrowly defeated by SD Huesca in a game in which Miguel Álvarez made six changes to his starting eleven from last Wednesday’s game against Real Oviedo. A solitary free-kick from Marc Mateu denied the Yellows from gaining points in four consecutive matches despite dominating the game.
The first chance of the game fell to Huesca through Gerard, but Villarreal B began to take control of the game before the 10-minute mark by gaining possession, something they struggled with in previous away games, and winning the ball back in their opponents’ half. Carlo Adriano and Tiago Geralnik were running the show, with Collado and Forés, who was making his first start of the season, trying to occupy the free space to receive between lines. Del Moral tried his luck from outside the box, but his shot failed to find the target.
Despite the superiority of the game, Marc Mateu put Huesca ahead with a free kick that Jorgensen could do nothing about. Haissem, with a cross-shot, had the reply and put Andrés Fernández in trouble and Dela also tried his luck from the edge of the area. The Mini Submarine kept trying despite the blow. Nonetheless, they went into the break with the score against them.
For the start of the second half, Miguel Álvarez brought on Ontiveros and Tasende and moved Carlos Romero forward on the left flank in an attempt to find attacking depth. The idea could have paid off quickly, but Forés’ goal after five minutes was disallowed for offside. Diego Collado, in a superb individual move in which he got past three opponents, also had the first goal in his boots.
Forés did not give up in search of a goal and Andrés denied him with a superb save from the Valencian striker’s header. The Forés-Collado duo kept trying, but luck was not on their side. They were joined by Ontiveros, who stood out in both individual and collective actions. In the closing stages, Carlo tried from the edge of the area, but the pressure of going against the clock was taking its toll as he rushed his chances. Thus, Villarreal B lost in Huesca despite trying until the end.
Villarreal B’s next game will take place on Sunday 20th November at 2pm CET at the Mini Estadi against UD Ibiza after the league break due to the First Knockout Round of the Copa de S.M. El Rey.
