Marcelino proud of what has been a dream season

Villarreal CF manager, Marcelino García Toral, who will close out the season with his side this Sunday against Sporting de Gijón (7:30pm CET, El Molinón stadium), said in this morning’s press conference that the match will be the final step on what has been “an extraordinary season”. The Yellows manager explained that the Submarine’s season has surpassed all expectations. “It has been a fantastic season, an extraordinary year for us. Much better than what was expected at the start of the season. I think we’ve played good football and this is thanks to the work and attitude of the players, who have shown commitment and professionalism throughout it all. On a competitive level we’ve taken a significant step forward. Last season we failed to win certain games which we have done this season”.

The Villarreal manager also believes he has achieved a lot personally, highlighting that this year has been his best since his arrival in January 2013. “If we don’t look strictly at results, this has been my best season. Work wise, this season has been no different to any other, but in terms of performance and competitiveness it has been much better. Football can be strange in the way that the work you put is not necessarily reflected in the result. As manager we depend on our players and I’ve been very fortunate to be able to count on this great squad”, the manager explained.

To finish, Marcelino also talked about the players that will face the Asturian side. “I have all First Team players available, but there will be changes in the side as we’ve done previously throughout the season. The line-up will be very similar to that of the game against Deportivo de la Coruña last week”.
