The Yellows Academy’s U14s have won their seven games so far in the league this season

Villarreal U14s (Infantil A) are on fire! The boys, coached by Toni Olmo and Carlos Renau, had undoubtedly one of the best moments of their lives on 6th July of this year at the Pamesa Training Ground when they were crowned LaLiga Promises champions after beating Sevilla FC 0-2 in the final. There was also enough time for individual recognition, with prizes that will go down as great memories for Aitro Landero (best player) and Víctor Gómez (best goalkeeper). Now, this team continues to shine, in their league, Group 2 of the Liga Autonómica Infantil, in which they currently have 21 points, having won every one of their games.

“It’s a very good generation. They played in this league last season, against boys a year older, and that gives them great learning process in terms of competitions, as well as that added plus of having won the LaLiga Promises competition,” said coach Olmo, praising this golden generation for the Yellows Academy, who beat UD Alzira 7-0 at the weekend.

Fire in attack and sturdy in defence

Igor Oyono is their top scorer, and the man at the centre of attack for the Yellows. He has scored an impressive 19 goals in seven games in the league. Mauro Roca is the side’s second-top scorer, with seven.

“Igor is a very good player. He’s very good at dropping deep to get the ball and trying to find solutions from there, as well as going into the space, and as he is very quick, he can give you an advantage. But he is focused on working for the team, he does not only give us goals, but also assists,” underlined Renau, the assistant coach for this impressive side. Olmo added that, on a personal level: “He’s a really good kid too. Last week he only played 15 minutes, he accepted his role, and helped us coming off the bench.”

The young Yellows side have only conceded one goal in their impressive start to the league season. It is almost strange to see Olmo’s side concede chances, as they show a high level in defence in every game. “Our intention is for the team to be balanced, being good in attack, while not forgetting about the defensive role they have to play. We are lucky that teams are not creating much against us, and we have a good defence and two good goalkeepers.”

Despite the impressive results on the pitch, as well as what they have already achieved, the objective is clear: for the players to have fun while improving on an individual and group level: “We based everything on the hard work. They analyse themselves, they communicate among themselves and they find solutions. From there, the team is improving and the results are a consequence of that improvement. All of that helps us to be closer to winning, but the ball still has to go in,” said Renau.
