The curtain closes on the Special Olympics in style

The Closing Ceremony was celebrated today at the Ciudad Deportiva

The curtain closed on the VI Unified Football Special Olympics Championships (Campeonato de Fútbol Unificado Special Olympics) in style at midday today. The Closing Ceremony took place on Pitch 5 at the Villarreal CF Training Ground (Ciudad Deportiva) and was attended by Villarreal CF Institutional Relations member, Marcos Senna, President of Spain Special Olympics, Miguel Sagarra, Vice President of Spain Special Olympics, Josep Pijoán, Local Administration, Proximity and Social Services Councillor, Sabina Escrig, Commercial Director of Toyota Cobelsa Castellón, Toni Carmona, and President of the Levante UD Foundation, José Manuel Fuentes.

The event was very moving; all teams received medals and each delegation was presented with a commemorative shirt. A special mention must be given to those winners of the Fair Play awards, which went to CD Unitts player, Óscar Alfonso, and the Castilla y León Special Olympics team.

Marcos Senna was in charge of the closing of this year’s VI Unified Football Special Olympics Championships, which was celebrated at the Villarreal CF Training Ground for the second consecutive year. In total, 289 athletes participated in this year’s edition; split into 24 teams from nine Spanish regions and three European countries, Azerbaijan, Serbia and France.
