The municipal sports facilities of Vila-real will serve as a tribute to the ‘Xiquet del Poble’

Vila-real’s CEM (Centre Esportiu Municipal) will be named after Pau Francisco Torres as a tribute to the Villarreal centre-back. The player attended a ceremony today at the facilities where the change of name was made official with the aim of recognising the magnificent sporting performance and the human quality of the footballer. The event was also attended by Fernando Roig, president of Villarreal CF, and Fernando Roig Negueroles, CEO of the club, for whom Pau Torres had words of gratitude for the support given to his career and his participation in the growth of Villarreal CF.

Pau, a symbol of success for the town

Pau has taken football in Vila-real to another level and has made all the children of the city see that dreams can come true. The player from Vila-real won the Europa League last 26th May 2021 in Gdansk with Villarreal and is already a regular in the call-ups of the Spanish National Team. The Yellows Academy formed player was also a semi-finalist at last year’s European Championship and runner-up at the Olympic Games, making him the first athlete born in Vila-real to win an Olympic medal.
