The Yellows midfielder was one of the standout players against Atlético Madrid
Two tough tests passed successfully. Manu Trigueros has been one of the standout players for the Submarine in the last two games against Valencia and Atlético Madrid. Despite not having started too many games in this beginning of the season, the talented midfielder has shown in the last few weeks that he is in great form.
Against the side from the Spanish capital, the Yellows No.14 played alongside André-Frank Zambo Anguissa and Vicente Iborra in the middle of the pitch, putting in a noticeable 85% pass accuracy against one of the best sides in the league, even testing Jan Oblak with a dangerous shot from distance.
“I’m happy to have played two games in a row. I haven’t had much continuity this season. Despite that, I feel different to last season. This season, I’m going home happy after each training session. I’m very happy with the level I’m showing daily. I’m trying to show my best and make sure that is reflected during matches too,” says Trigueros.
He underlines that the match against Atlético Madrid is the path to follow: “We were capable of getting a clean sheet and we grew from there. We competed for 90 minutes. That’s the path to follow. Building from that, we will grow as a side.”
Furthermore, Trigueros believes that the Yellows are aiming to get closer to European football, in a position they were in earlier in the season: “We’re working at being a block, making teams have to work really hard if they want to score against us. That comes from being solid, from forming solid lines and being affective for counter-attacks, as well as playing football well. That’s how we will move closer to the European spots.”
Looking ahead to the next league tie, Trigueros underlines the difficulty of Sunday’s tie against Sevilla FC: “It’s a very difficult stadium to play at. They are in a good moment. We must be strong at the back and make the most of our chances.”
