Villarreal will be looking for points at Almeria to stay on course for Europe
Villarreal CF visit the Power Horse Stadium this Saturday at 4:15pm CET to face UD Almería. Quique Setién’s side will be looking to come away with another win after taking all three points against Getafe last Monday at the Estadio de la Cerámica (2-1).
Before Gameweek 24, the Submarine are in seventh place with 34 points, tied with Rayo Vallecano, who are in sixth place and in the European places. Almería, for their part, are coming off the back of a shock 1-0 win over leaders FC Barcelona. The win put them 15th with 25 points and out of the relegation places. Rubi’s side will be looking to get back to winning ways at home to move further away from the relegation zone.
In the first meeting between the sides this season, the Yellows managed to win the game in the last minute, after playing most of the second half with a man down due to the sending off of Álex Baena. The Yellows’ midfielder himself equalised and Nicolas Jackson scored to make it 2-1.
Historically, Villarreal have faced Almeria 13 times in the top flight, three of which have gone the way of Almeria, four of which have ended in draws and six of which have been wins for the Submarine.
The Power Horse Stadium will host a duel between two teams with very different realities, but with very clear objectives: Villarreal, to get back to winning ways to stay in the European fight; Almería to win to increase their distance from the relegation zone. Saturday, from 4:15pm CET, Almeria-Villarreal.
