Starting 2025 with good feelings in Fuenlabrada

Miguel Álvarez underlined that the team from Madrid are a pragmatic and competitive team (Sunday, 5:30pm CET)

Villarreal B head coach, Miguel Álvarez, spoke to the media this Friday to analyse the upcoming match against CF Fuenlabrada at the Estadio Fernando Torres (Sunday, 5:30pm CET).

“Fuenlabrada are a team that have very good numbers since they’ve changed head coach. They are very pragmatic. They have a block with a lot of experience, as it can’t be otherwise in this division. Perhaps they are not as associative as before, but the numbers are very good since the arrival of the new coach,” analysed Álvarez.

Villarreal B will be back in action in Fuenlabrada after the Christmas break. “We’re doing very well. We are back to business as usual after a short break. We have a very hard-working group and we have done several double sessions in the last few weeks. We had a small match against the first team which was good for us to find our groove. We are very satisfied and ready to compete,” said Miguel Álvarez.

The match against the team from Madrid is another opportunity to forget the Mini Submarine’s defeat against Yeclano. A slip-up from which, as the coach points out, lessons must be learned: “I don’t think we deserved more. It’s true that we had chances, but the first half was poor. In the second half, maybe we generated enough to equalise, but we had a lot of absentees, plus Víctor was injured. With the version we gave against Yeclano, we would suffer a lot. It was a bad day and we can’t repeat it. We have to do much better in the next matches.”

The coach also commented on the arrival of Slavy, the first addition to the Mini Submarine during the winter transfer window: “He’s a player who didn’t play much in the first half of the season with Eibar. He lacks minutes. He needs to get back to his best because he’s going to have competition here, but we’re happy with him and his arrival. He’s an U23 player and he’s a good addition to the squad. We needed a striker to complement Etta Eyong, who could also give us alternatives. He is a player with ambition to reach professional football.”

Finally, the Villarreal B head coach congratulated Dani Budesca on his recent call-up to the Spanish U19 squad: “It’s a great satisfaction for everyone; coaching staff and teammates. He has worked very hard since the summer. He has participated with us more than we expected. Even though he’s registered with the C team, he is very much part of our squad.”
