“Small details will decide the match against Alcorcón”

Miguel Álvarez has predicted an evenly-matched clash that will be decided by efficiency in the penalty areas

Villarreal B head coach Miguel Álvarez appeared before the media this Friday to analyse the match against AD Alcorcón (Sunday, 7:30pm CET), which will be played at the Mini Estadi.

Rueda de prensa completa de Miguel Álvarez

“We are looking forward to the game. We want to win at home. It’s vital to get points at our ground. I’m expecting an even game. They’re a team that were relegated last year, just like us. We are both in the process of adapting to the league,” said the coach from Jaén, after talking about the catastrophe caused by the flooding in the south of Valencia.

“We are shocked. It’s a situation we’ve never experienced before in Spain. Football has taken a back seat. It’s time to help people. I’m glad we didn’t play last week and I don’t think there should have been any football in the whole of Spain,” he explains with respect to the tragedy.

As far as football is concerned, Miguel Álvarez stresses the need to win at home in order to achieve the objectives: “The points at home are very important. We have to be strong at home and win here as we have done every year at the Mini Estadi. Against Alcorcón it won’t be easy. They are a team with a good approach and, as is always the case in this league, victory will be a question of details.”

Those same small details are where the B team are focusing on improving, as Miguel Álvarez acknowledges, adding the importance of being effective in the penalty area: “Football doesn’t understand justice. It’s only about goals and areas. We are having some difficulties in this area. We can find excuses, but we don’t want to. We are working well and we want to improve these small aspects. We lack a little bit of that. Teams can score easily against us and we’re lacking being clinical in both penalty areas. We’re doing a lot of things well, but there’s still a lot to be done. We do a lot of things well, but we need to do more things well.”

Finally, the Mini Submarine’s head coach was pleased to have recovered some important players: “Requena is now available and has been able to train with us for several weeks. It’s likely that Pau Cabanes – who has been with the first team- will also be back with us. This makes us more competitive when it comes to the starting XI and also gives us more variants in the second half. We’ve just come from a week of hard work with the lads, who are trying to take that step forward that we need to adapt to the league.”
