Setién: “We lacked the inspiration to achieve something more”

The Villarreal head coach has praised the team’s effort, despite the defeat to FC Barcelona

Villarreal head coach Quique Setién has appeared before the media to analyse the defeat against FC Barcelona (0-1) at the Estadio de la Cerámica. These were the most important statements:

Press conference with Quique Setién post FC Barcelona

Close to an equaliser before the break

“There were moments when you could see that they were very good. They overpowered us in the pressure and it cost us a lot. They threatened us. They scored the goal and created a lot of chances. We could have gone in at half-time with an equaliser on Morales’ last chance. We could have equalised.”

More football in the first half

“In the second half, we threatened more. We played more in their half and had some clear chances. We lacked a bit of inspiration, which they had to win the game. We made an effort, we did some things well. I’m happy with the team’s work.”

Three games without a win

“Football is like that. You win and you lose. We’ve also won in a row. There are situations you can’t control. Now we are not so lucky. We are worse in terms of results. We have maintained our level and intensity. Just as we have lost the three games, we can win the next ones.”

Close to the European objective

“We are two points away from Europe. We want to achieve that objective. At the end of the league, we want to be there.”

A full sick bay

“We have several players in the sick bay. We didn’t have Gerard today. Now we have Coque. We don’t know the extent. We are not having any luck. Hopefully it’s not too serious and we can count on him again soon.”
