The Yellows renew Castellón-born coach’s contract for the 2023/24 season
Villarreal CF has reached a contract renewal agreement with Sara Monforte, who will continue to lead Villarreal Women for the 2023/24 season. This upcoming season will be her sixth season with the club, and her third in the top flight of national women’s football.
Sara Monforte, progress all the way up to the top flight
Sara Monforte Mestre (10/14/1980, Castellón) has extended her contract with Villarreal Women for another season. Monforte, who joined the Yellows in 2018 after retiring from her playing carrer at Zaragoza CFF, will spend her sixth campaign as the “Groguetes” coach. Currently, she has been at the helm of the Yellow Submarine for a total of 130 matches.
In her first season, Sara Monforte led the team to the second tier of national women’s football (formerly known as Primera División B and later as Reto Iberdrola). Two seasons later, she got the women’s first team promoted to the First Division. Her latest achievement has been helping Villarreal Women to maintain their status in the top flight for two seasons competing in Primera.
An impressive career behind her
As a player, Sara Monforte had a long and successful career, 19 years playing at the highest level: 18 years in First Division (Levante UD, RCD Espanyol, DSV Colegio Alemán, Valencia CF and Zaragoza CFF) and one year in the Second Division with Villarreal CF. Additionally, she won several titles, including two leagues and eight Copa de la Reina trophies, and she was capped 11 times for the Spanish national team.
