The Villarreal president hopes for hard work and health for next season to continue as a top-flight side yet another year
Villarreal president Fernando Roig appeared in front of the media during the offering to the patron saints of Vila-real which took place this lunch time after the morning training session. He underlined that the Yellow Submarine will head into the 2019/20 season keen on competing: “We’ve put together a good squad. There have been new incorporations, especially in defence. We’re going into this new season full of excitement and keen on demonstrating, game after game, that we have a good team.”
The president underlined the main aim was to stay in the top flight of Spanish football: “We ask for health and hard work for this season. The fans, once more, will be cheering us on. We hope to not suffer so much and to reach our aim of being in Primera yet another year. If we can go even further and get to Europe, even better, but the main aim is to stay in Primera.”
Roig spoke about the situation regarding Bruno Soriano, who is currently recovering from knee surgery: “It’s a process that has steps to follow and he needs to go step by step. He’s happy and getting better every day. We hope he can join the team soon.”
He also thanked Jaume Costa, who has left to join Valencia on loan, for his professionalism and commitment: “He’s a very important player who gave us a lot. We can only thank him for everything he’s done for Villarreal.”
Finally Roig recognised that the squad is ready to start the season well: “We’re ready to compete from this Saturday against Granada. If Ontiveros comes, he will be the last signing. If it doesn’t happen, we’ll stick with the players we’ve got, who make up a good team.”
