The French midfielder is one of the standout figures in Villarreal CF’s history
Robert Pirès (France, 29th October 1973) is one of the most talented players who has represented the Villarreal CF shirt. Elegant with the ball at his feet, the French midfielder had great vision and a great understanding of the game.
The winger arrived at Villarreal in summer 2006 from Arsenal FC. He was part of a historic side for the Gunners, and was one of the best players of the English club’s brightest moments in recent history. He also had success with the France national team, winning the World Cup in 1998 and Euro 2000.
In his first season as a Yellow, Pirès suffered a big injury before the start of the league season. A ligament tear in his left knee kept him off the pitch until March 2007. Despite his unfortunate start to his career as a Yellow, the talented French winger didn’t take long to show his great talent at what was then called El Madrigal. Wearing No.7, he was at the club for four seasons, for a total of 129 games, scoring 18 goals.
Wearing the Submarine shirt, Pirès left an unforgettable collection of dribbles, skills and memorable goals against teams like Real Madrid, Sevilla, FC Barcelona and Valencia CF. He was also part of the squad that were historically runners-up in the 2007/08 LaLiga season.
