Villarreal CF will try and do something heroic to turn around the tie against Liverpool FC in the second leg of the UEFA Champions League semi-finals. After losing 2-0 at Anfield, Unai Emery’s fans will try and get into the final of the leading European competition with the help of their fans. It will not be easy, but there are reasons to believe in the Yellows’ miracle.
- Villarreal have already experienced beating Liverpool at the Estadio de la Cerámica. The Yellows beat the English side 1-0 on 28th April 2016 in the first leg of the UEFA Europa League semi-finals. The Submarine, despite being knocked out, won at home against Jürgen Klopp’s side thanks to an Adrián López goal.
- The support of the fans. Villarreal CF supporters know the importance of the continental match. The fans will cheer on the team during the match against Liverpool FC. Fans will follow the bus from the training ground to the stadium, and there will be a massive tifo in the stadium.
- Villarreal have already surprised big European teams. Unai Emery’s team knocked out both Juventus and FC Bayern this season. In both cases, the Yellows were the better team at the Estadio de la Cerámica.
- The Emery factor in European ties. Since Unai Emery joined Villarreal CF, the Submarine have got through every knockout tie in both the UEFA Europa League and the UEFA Champions League.
- Villarreal CF have never lost a knockout match at home in the UEFA Champions League. In the three seasons that the Submarine have reached the knockout stages in the leading continental competition, the Yellows have never lost a game in front of their home fans.
