Spain U20s beat Venezuela and qualify brilliantly for Semi-finals (2-1)
Yesterday the Spain U20 national team, represented by Yellows Academy players Pepe Castaño and David Fondarella, qualified for the Semi-finals of the COTIF (L’Alcúdia International Football Tournament) after beating Venezuela 2-1. Centre back Pepe Castaño started the match and put in an excellent performance for 90 minutes, while Fonda did not enter the field of play this time.
The U20s came out strong and were aware of the importance of the tie. In the 1st minute they had their first chance on goal, but could not convert. In the 11th minute the Spanish insistence was rewarded as they scored their first goal thanks to Genaro.
Spain continued to create chances, but they could not hit the back of the net and then Venezuela equalized with a goal by Ronaldo Peña. After the break, and in the first minute of the second half, the Spain U20 side struck again. This time it was Peru who scored the goal that would go on to give Spain the victory. Despite the Venezuelan onslaught, Spain kept the score line in their favour and booked their place in the Semi-finals of the tournament, to be played this Tuesday 2nd August.
