A danger down the Submarine’s left flank. Alfonso Pedraza put in a great performance in the last league tie against Athletic Club yesterday at San Mamés (1-1). The left-back was one of the most dangerous players for Unai Emery’s side, joining the attack unrelentlessly down the left wing. The No.24 also played an important part in the Yellows goal, leaving a number of Athletic Club players behind thanks to his speed and technical quality.

Pedraza’s impressive showing against Athletic is not an isolated episode. The Andalusian player has been one of the stand-out players for Villarreal this season, offering directness and speed down the left flank for Emery’s side.

This season, Pedraza has played 26 times, 19 in LaLiga, three in the Copa del Rey and four in the Europa League. Due to his versatility, the player has occupied different positions for Emery, both at left back and as a winger as well.

The Andalusian player is playing an active role in attack, not only due to his speed, but also for the distance he covers. So far this season, he has run a total of 168,254 metres, being involved in a total of 852 offensive actions so far this season. He has also scored one goal and provided two assists.

After the match against Athletic Club, Pedraza spoke to Villarreal TV to analyse what happened at San Mamés. To listen to his comments in Spanish, click the play logo on the main image.
