The Vila-real born centre-back and the Catalan striker’s Spain were knocked out by Italy
Pau Torres and Gerard Moreno’s Spanish national team bid farewell to EURO 2020 yesterday after falling to Italy in the semi-finals (1-1) on penalties. Both Yellows players came off the bench and played in a key phase of the game against Italy. The Catalan forward substituted Oyarzabal in the 70th minute and the Vila-real defender came on for Èric García in the 109th minute. Gerard assumed the responsibility to take one of the decisive penalties in the shootout and hit the back of the net defended by Donnarumma. Nevertheless, the final result of the penalty shootout (4-2) saw ‘La Roja’ eliminated, missing out on a ticket to the big final at Wembley.
It should also be mentioned that Pau Torres has not yet finished representing Spain, as he will join Spain U23s under the management of Luis De la Fuente for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games (Japan). The Yellows centre-back is one of two Villarreal CF players to be called up for the Olympics along with Andrei Ratiu who will be representing Romania.
