After the Europa League victory, Pato and Jonathan are already thinking about Real Sociedad
Alexandre Pato was one of the main names talked about in the Zürich match. Thanks to one goal and one assist by the Brazilian, Villarreal were able to take the three points in their first game of the Group stage in the UEFA Europa League. “I’m happy I got the goal and the assist, but I’m even happier to start with three points”, he said in the mixed zone. He also wanted to motivate the fans: “Today I was able to play and I’m happy, but we want the fans to be even louder. We need that, but I know there is a different mentality. When the fans get behind us we play much better”, he added.
The Yellows striker also talked about the league clash against Real Sociedad (Sunday, 6:30pm, EL Madrigal). “The most important game is always the next one. We have to work really hard and be concentrated to put in a good performance. Tonight’s result gives us confidence for that match; the team is improving and we know we can do great things this year”, he concluded.
Jonathan: “The team is getting better and better and growing in confidence”
Jonathan dos Santos reacted along the same lines as his teammate, highlighting the importance of starting with a win. “It was very important to start out on the right foot in this competition. I’m happy for the three points, the goal and because the team is getting better and better and growing in confidence”, he explained. “It was a great goal. The truth is I don’t usually score many goals, but today I scored a good one after linking up with Pato and I’m happy about that”.
With regard to this weekend’s match, the Mexican emphasised the difficulty of the clash and Real Sociedad’s quality, but he was positive. “We know that we’re a very strong side and we have to win no matter what”, he added.
