More than a thousand people attended the Estadio de la Cerámica to enjoy the opening of the event

The XXXI National Ascale LALIGA FC FUTURES Tournament held its opening ceremony this Thursday in front of more than a thousand people at the Estadio de la Cerámica, the venue that will host the best national grassroots football tournament organised by LALIGA in collaboration with Villarreal CF and the Fundación José Ramón de la Morena on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

During the ceremony, the president of Villarreal, Fernando Roig, the journalist José Ramón de la Morena and the corporate director of LALIGA, Javier Gómez, addressed the 240 young talented participants who will fight to be the best team in Spain at U12 level. Finally, the coaches of the first teams have sent an emotional surprise message wishing luck to the youth players of their respective clubs.

The competition will begin tomorrow, Friday, with the group phase, which will continue until Saturday, when the quarter-finals will also be played. On Sunday it will be time for the semi-finals and the grand final.

Villarreal’s U12s (Alevín A) have been placed in Group B with Real Sociedad, Athletic Club, Rayo Vallecano and RC Celta. The tournament hosts will make their debut on Friday at 12:30pm against the Madrid side. On the same Friday they will play two more matches, against Athletic Club and Celta, at 5pm and 7pm respectively, and will close the group stage on Saturday at 12:30pm against Real Sociedad. All times are in Spanish local time.

The schedule for Villarreal is as follows:

  • Villarreal vs Rayo Vallecano (Friday 7th June, 12:30pm CEST)
  • Athletic Club vs Villarreal (Friday 7th June, 5pm CEST)
  • Villarreal vs Celta de Vigo (Friday 7th June, 7pm CEST)
  • Real Sociedad vs Villarreal (Saturday 8th June, 12:30pm CEST)

The competition system consists of 48 matches in total. The group stage, quarter-finals and 3rd and 4th places will consist of 12 minutes per half, with a three-minute rest period. The semi-finals will last 15 minutes per half, with a five-minute rest period. And finally, the final will be 20 minutes per half with a ten-minute break.
