Villarreal, a factory of internationals for 'La Roja'

17 / 04 / 2020

A total of 18 Spanish footballers have been called up by the national team while playing for the Yellows

In the last few decades, Villarreal CF has been one of the clubs in Spain to provide the most players for the national team. In the last two squads, former manager Robert Moreno named four Yellows players (Pau Torres, Gerard Moreno, Santi Cazorla and Raúl Albiol), making the Yellow Submarine the best-represented club in the national side.

In Spain’s golden era, in June 2011, Villarreal managed to beat that number, with a total of five players called up. The manager at the time, Vicente del Bosque, called up Santi Cazorla, Joan Capdevila, Bruno Soriano, Carlos Marchena and Borja Valero.

After playing in the top flight of Spanish football for 20 years, Villarreal has had 18 players called up to represent ‘La Roja’:
