The Italian defender has written a thank-you message to Villarreal CF

Dear Yellows family,

After nearly 20 years as a professional footballer, I have decided to end this incredible era of my life. It was been a real privilege to play for clubs like Brescia Calcio, Parma FC, AC Milan and, in these last four years, Villarreal CF. I've grown both on a professional and personal level, and today I have the chance to face a new project with trust and certainty.

I want to say goodbye by giving my sincere thanks to the Roig family and all the different parts of the club: my team-mates, managers, coaching staff, doctors, kitmen, groundsmen, nutritionists, office staff, cooking staff and every one of the brilliant people who I've come across day after day. The care and the dedication with which you all work makes you great people and excellent professionals. I also want to thank all my family for the time, support and unconditional love they give me, especially my wife, Paolo.

This season wasn't easy and I wanted to say goodbye to the fans in a way that they deserve. I want to thank them, from my heart, for the respect and affection you've given me in my time with the club. I want to show you that you have all my respect and my gratitude.

And I am now moving on in my career, with a new chapter, to start with a lot of eagerness a new project as part of the AC Milan coaching staff. It's time to face new challenges, new objectives and new dreams.

I'm now saying goodbye, but I'm saying 'see you soon', because my heart will always be yellow.

Daniele Bonera
