Afanias users had a very special Sunday. They left the residence for a couple of hours to go to the ladies' first team match at the Villarreal CF Training Ground (Ciudad Deportiva). The special needs centre members enjoyed and celebrated every one of the six goals scored against Ciudad de Murcia.
Afanias social educator, Gentzane Muñoz, underlined that the idea of being at one of the team's matches excited the centre's users: "It's a real opportunity for them to be here. We've spend all week showing them how to do the Mexican wave and songs to support the team. They are really excited to have been able to have this experience."
However, it wasn't the first time both parties had met: "We had already come to the Training Ground. In our first and second meetings, the girls showed us the facilities and they also came to our residence to get to know it. It excited our users because we could show them what we do here, the space we have and share a snack."
Nerea Vicente, Villarreal Ladies First Team player, underlined the happiness that the Afanias users show in each of the meetings: "Whenever we're with them, they are very happy. With just a little, they become happy. They transmit their happiness to us and it helps us value what we have." Furthermore, the youngster, who came through the Yellows Academy and has represented Spain at youth level, highlighted how Villarreal having intellectually-disabled teams is a plus: "It's something that's really positive, and gives them a chance to be able to participate and enjoy football like we do."
