Villarreal manager Javi Calleja analysed this lunchtime the current situation regarding the club and has underlined the way the Yellows can get three points in the next league match against Athletic Club (Wednesday, 8pm CEST). “The team is very good physically and mentally. The group has worked out how to be solid at the back, that’s a good base and from there I’m sure that the team will carry on growing with the ball and will be a team that gets better each game when shooting and trying to score.
For Calleja, Wednesday’s match will be very demanding: “We’re expecting a hard and intense game. They are good at duels, on a defensive level they mark each man and they often play for everything or nothing. They’ll make us play quickly and we’ll need to make the right decision to be able to unpack their organised nature. It will be a tough match, but a good match.”
Regarding the opponents, Calleja underlined the threat of their attack: “They have [Iñaki] Williams, who’s a very quick player, and [Iker] Muniain who’s a player who can cause damage between the lines. They’re a very dynamic, intense team and do everything at a high speed.”
Villarreal will try and bring three points home, like they already did against CD Leganés at Butarque (0-1). “Away from home, the team is more secure and everything’s easier. We can’t play with fear, not in football, nor in life, you should have fear. You have to know how to be brave and know that hard work brings results. We’re working well. It has been a setback to not win at home yet and that’s complicated things for us, but I’m sure that we’re going to head up the table,” he outlined.
Calleja has been in charge of the first team for a year now. The coach looked back on his time so far positively: “It’s been a year with a bit of everything, last season was very good and we got our objective, what’s more, we got through a lot of adversity. This season, we would have liked to have started better, but I’m sure that the end of the season will be better than the start.”
