Villarreal CF Manager, Javi Calleja, praised his players work rate in tonight’s match against SD Ponferradina: “Our aim was to get through to the next round and we did that. We dominated the game from the first minute. We had some good chances, but in the first half we lacked conviction. In the second half, we threw everything at them. Bakambu’s first goal opened the gates for us and with the tie even we pushed on to get two more to give us the victory”.
The Yellows boss was also “satisfied” with Asenjo’s return to the pitch: “It’s great news. He played really well. We have three top level golkeepers, they show that every time they get out there. The important thing is that Sergio starts building up his confidence and security in the goal”.
Lastly, Calleja took the chance to praise his players’ work rate and the performance of the reserve team players that played: “They showed they can respond again. They had a good all-round game and were key in tonight’s win”.
